He loved and spoiled his daughter. She was free to eat as much as she wanted. This case was about inadequate nutrition from a vegan diet,\u201d Paxman said.    <\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph inline-placeholder vossi-paragraph\" data-uri=\"cms.cnn.com\/_components\/paragraph\/instances\/cm76sid8o00093b6m6zopk456@published\" data-editable=\"text\" data-component-name=\"paragraph\" data-article-gutter=\"true\">            \u201cEvery parent on this planet knows that if you don\u2019t give a child enough food they will starve. I simply cannot accept that you didn\u2019t see it. I simply cannot accept that you didn\u2019t notice,\u201d Judge Black said.    <\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph inline-placeholder vossi-paragraph\" data-uri=\"cms.cnn.com\/_components\/paragraph\/instances\/cm6rnx9f8000l3b6mym6z5kxy@published\" data-editable=\"text\" data-component-name=\"paragraph\" data-article-gutter=\"true\">            In fact, Black found they did notice \u2013 so much so that Kate\u2019s father forged her birth certificate to make her seem two years younger, partly to hide what was becoming increasingly apparent to other people \u2013 their daughter was chronically malnourished.    <\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph inline-placeholder vossi-paragraph\" data-uri=\"cms.cnn.com\/_components\/paragraph\/instances\/cm6rnx9f800133b6mxnqnusa1@published\" data-editable=\"text\" data-component-name=\"paragraph\" data-article-gutter=\"true\">            Parents at the ballet school were starting to whisper, and her dance teachers implored her parents to see a nutritionist. We want them to continue to grow and develop and be capable without us,\u201d she said.    <\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph inline-placeholder vossi-paragraph\" data-uri=\"cms.cnn.com\/_components\/paragraph\/instances\/cm6rnx9f8000r3b6mdg0u8twu@published\" data-editable=\"text\" data-component-name=\"paragraph\" data-article-gutter=\"true\">            \u201cWe\u2019re seeing more anxiety in young adults and in teens because they\u2019re not prepared to face the challenges and overcome the challenges without help.\u201d    <\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph inline-placeholder vossi-paragraph\" data-uri=\"cms.cnn.com\/_components\/paragraph\/instances\/cm6rnx9f8000x3b6mv4nc7zj1@published\" data-editable=\"text\" data-component-name=\"paragraph\" data-article-gutter=\"true\">            Kate\u2019s parents didn\u2019t just prevent her from growing up, the court found \u2013 they told \u201ca cascading series of lies\u201d from 2016 about their daughter\u2019s age, to cover up their neglect.    <\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph inline-placeholder vossi-paragraph\" data-uri=\"cms.cnn.com\/_components\/paragraph\/instances\/cm6rnx9f8000y3b6mnuk8dcqe@published\" data-editable=\"text\" data-component-name=\"paragraph\" data-article-gutter=\"true\">            The first came as her mother signed Kate up for a dance class, giving a date of birth that made her daughter seem six months younger than she really was.    <\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph inline-placeholder vossi-paragraph\" data-uri=\"cms.cnn.com\/_components\/paragraph\/instances\/cm6rnx9f8000z3b6m4snbd32q@published\" data-editable=\"text\" data-component-name=\"paragraph\" data-article-gutter=\"true\">            Months later, she gave a different birthdate again, to the same dance school, taking off another year, so she appeared 18 months younger.    <\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph inline-placeholder vossi-paragraph\" data-uri=\"cms.cnn.com\/_components\/paragraph\/instances\/cm6rnx9f800103b6mtulx4pv6@published\" data-editable=\"text\" data-component-name=\"paragraph\" data-article-gutter=\"true\">            Then in another application, she knocked a full two years off her age.    <\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph inline-placeholder vossi-paragraph\" data-uri=\"cms.cnn.com\/_components\/paragraph\/instances\/cm6rnx9f800113b6m98xl3m98@published\" data-editable=\"text\" data-component-name=\"paragraph\" data-article-gutter=\"true\">            \u201cYou deliberately lied because you knew that your daughter did not look or behave like a child of her true age,\u201d Black said.    <\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph inline-placeholder vossi-paragraph\" data-uri=\"cms.cnn.com\/_components\/paragraph\/instances\/cm6rnx9f8001b3b6m6rvmuiyz@published\" data-editable=\"text\" data-component-name=\"paragraph\" data-article-gutter=\"true\">            In her sentencing remarks, Black said it was clear that Kate\u2019s parents loved her, but didn\u2019t show it in their actions.    <\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph inline-placeholder vossi-paragraph\" data-uri=\"cms.cnn.com\/_components\/paragraph\/instances\/cm6rnx9f8001c3b6mo9yjepom@published\" data-editable=\"text\" data-component-name=\"paragraph\" data-article-gutter=\"true\">            \u201cThere is nothing unusual in a parent wanting to cling onto their child and be reluctant to let them go and mature and become an adult. My university fees are being paid by my parents.\u201d    <\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph inline-placeholder vossi-paragraph\" data-uri=\"cms.cnn.com\/_components\/paragraph\/instances\/cm6rnx9f8000v3b6m8tipnxnu@published\" data-editable=\"text\" data-component-name=\"paragraph\" data-article-gutter=\"true\">            \u201cI love my parents very much. They are the most important people in my life. If my parents go to prison, I don\u2019t think I\u2019ll be able to cope.\u201d    <\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph inline-placeholder vossi-paragraph\" data-uri=\"cms.cnn.com\/_components\/paragraph\/instances\/cm6slnzga00023b6mzpqp9avu@published\" data-editable=\"text\" data-component-name=\"paragraph\" data-article-gutter=\"true\">            Kate\u2019s father admitted forging her birth certificate, but both parents denied all other charges, while their lawyers pointed to an anxiety disorder to partly explain their behavior.    <\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph inline-placeholder vossi-paragraph\" data-uri=\"cms.cnn.com\/_components\/paragraph\/instances\/cm74auik5001l3b6md8rsaqvk@published\" data-editable=\"text\" data-component-name=\"paragraph\" data-article-gutter=\"true\">            Judge Black said the couple had taken no responsibility for their actions, and she saw no reason not to jail them.    <\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph inline-placeholder vossi-paragraph\" data-uri=\"cms.cnn.com\/_components\/paragraph\/instances\/cm74bc4c5002i3b6md4h7drk2@published\" data-editable=\"text\" data-component-name=\"paragraph\" data-article-gutter=\"true\">            \u201cYou have shown no remorse.
